About the Festival

The Festival will be held in the heart of Belmont Village and will stretch from the main shopping area (Station Road), through the grounds of St John’s Church and into the park adjacent to Belmont Rise. The event will be widely publicised and will attract residents from all over the south of the Borough.

Belmont Festival 2010 was attended by over 4000 visitors who came from the local area to enjoy the food, fun and festivities. For 2012, we are publicising the Festival more widely and are planning for it to be even bigger and better than last time! There will be a veritable extravaganza of activities and events to entertain all the family. All the fun features from 2010 will be back plus several new ones, including live music and dance shows on the main stage,  numerous side stalls, a street market, a licensed beer tent and food for all the family. We hope that people will come to the Festival for Sunday lunch and to enjoy the many attractions on offer.

Make a note in your diary NOW to join us on the day.

Music will be provided throughout the event by the Radio Marsden DJs, with guest appearances by live music and dance acts performing on the Radio Marsden Stage.

In addition, there will be entertainment for our younger visitors in the Children’s Arena and, for those of you wanting a bit of peace and quiet, you can relax listening to live music in the Tea Rooms while you feast on home made cakes.  For 2012, we are adding a Buskers' Pitch as a new attraction alongside the ever popular Beer Tent. This means you will have live entertainment while drinking your beer or sipping your Pimms.

For those of you looking for something substantial to consume, there will be a Barbeque offering a range of hot food as well as other several other foodstalls selling a variety of hot and cold dishes.  Local Belmont restaurants will also be open offering a buffet style menu outside their premises.

If you want even more fun, there will be lots of stalls where you can test your skills. There will be something for all ages and plenty of prizes to be won. The Plate Smashing stall is excellent therapy for getting rid of those pent up tensions!

The Festival is intended primarily as a family fun day out for local residents, as well as a fund-raising event for our local charity, The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity. Entry to the Festival is free, but please try out all the stalls and if you have enjoyed your day, make a donation to one of the collectors as you leave.

Tickets (£1) for the Festival’s Grand Raffle are now on sale from shops in Belmont displaying the Festival sign. There some fantastic prizes on offer with a total value of over £1000 and include an iPad, an LCD TV and a Kindle e-book reader.

The event is being organised by the local community for the local community. Representatives from local clubs, residents associations, scout and guide groups, schools, churches, the Rotary club, local shopkeepers and businesses, the police and the council have joined together to make the Festival an exciting and enjoyable event.

The Festival will be one of the main event in the Borough’s Take Part Take Pride programme, which runs throughout the summer.

About The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity

We are delighted once again to be running the Belmont Festival in partnership with The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity and their fundraising team.

This world acclaimed institution is located right on our doorstep and provides treatment and care for more than 40,000 cancer patients every year.

Belmont Festival 2010 raised over £12,000 for the new Oak Centre for Children and Young People which was officially opened by TRH The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on 29th September 2011.

While the chances of a child contracting some form of cancer is 1 in 650, the chances of an adult needing cancer treatment at some time in their life is 1 in 3. This year we will be collecting for The Centre for Molecular Pathology, the latest phase in The Royal Marsden’s commitment to providing and developing the best cancer treatment in the world for both young and adult patients.

The Centre for Molecular Pathology
This new Centre will bring leading scientists under one roof, so that research discoveries can quickly be converted into better ways to diagnose and treat cancer. Patients with the same type of cancer can respond differently to the same treatment, so the centre will help use the latest diagnostic tools to identify personalised treatments that are likely to be the most effective on an individual patient basis.

The Centre is due to be completed in 2012 and The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity is committed to raising £2.3 million to fund the building costs. For more information and to see a short film about the New Centre for Molecular Pathology please visit www.royalmarsden.org/cmp

By supporting the Belmont Festival you will help The Royal Marsden to make life better for people with cancer and keep striving towards a future without it.
